At 16:00 on April 28, 2022, at the invitation of the Scientific Research Office and the School of Finance, Professor Jiang Yu from the Department of Finance and Insurance of Nanjing University Business School made a speech entitled Backfire Effect: on the Effect of Clarify Announcements and Dispel Rumors from Listed Companies in the live broadcast room of the Tencent conference. The report was chaired by Associate Professor Yu Wenmei from the School of Finance, and some teachers and students from the School of Finance and other colleges attended the lecture.
Jiang Yu first proposed the concept of backfire effect and explained it with vivid examples; then, he introduced backfire effect into the stock market, which aroused everyone's thinking: if there are rumors in the stock market, is it necessary to issue a clarification announcement to refute rumors? If the rumor is refuted, what is the effect, and what are the factors that affect it? Subsequently, six hypotheses are proposed and verified. During the report, Professor Jiang Yu gave a clear introduction to his paper. The wonderful report aroused everyone's interest in scientific research, and also brought us advanced academic ideas, which opened up everyone's vision and ideas for research, and pointed out the direction for future research work to students.
At the end of the report, the students exchanged topics of interest with Dr. Jiang Yu, and Dr. Jiang Yu answered them one by one, which benefited each other a lot.
